Only about a month ago did we see a new and innovative storyline and gameplay, in a game, which allows you to use the powers of your mind to control objects or do something not usually possible. This game Psi-Ops was great because it was something new and different. Now only about a month later Second Sight, which is based on the exact same ideas, is now available. It looks as if Midway beat Codematers to the punch with this new idea of a video game. Although both games are based around the same ideas both games have there ups and downs. Because of this it would not be fair to judge either game based on their release dates, mainly because they both were released within a month of each other. A month of time is definitely not enough to create such a great game as Second Sight.

Gameplay

When you first start the game you find out that you are playing as a man of the name John Vattic. However he does not appear like someone that is capable of moving objects with his mind and performing other super psychic powers. He is bald, shirtless, and all bandaged up. On top of that Vattic has been in a coma for a long period of time and remembers nothing of his past. You wake up in a strange medical hospital and soon escape and find yourself fighting against cops and trying to discover what really happened to you.

There are basically two types of weapons that are available to you in the game. You can either chose to use your psychic powers or guns such as pistols, sub machine guns, and sniper rifles. Sometimes it is required to use certain weapons in different parts of the level, but for the most part the choice is up to you when taking on the enemies. For example, in one part of the level you have to use a sniper rifle to kill off enemies in the far distance, however after this you are free to use either guns or your physic powers.

Here is a list of the physic powers available in the game:

Healing - This is by far the most useful power in the game. It allows you to restore your body if it is damaged.

Telekinesis - This is the power that allows you to move objects with your mind and your mind only. As you progress through the game you will be able to lift heavier and heavier objects.

Psi Blast - The psi blast is used as a weapon. The blast is a concentration of psychic energy that you are able to through at near by enemies. As you progress through the game it will become more powerful.

Charm - The charm power allows you to become invisible for a short amount of time. This is useful if someone is searching for you, if you use charm they will assume they just saw something else and walk away.

Projection - With your powers you are able to force your mind out for your body. Similar to the charm, your new body will be transparent and you will be able to move around the level for a short period of time. This power is mainly used for activating switches or turning off cameras without being spotted.

There are a number of other characters in the game that give the game a more realistic feel. Each character in the game assists you in different parts of the game and each has their own personal characteristics and job on the team. For example, in your squad you have a commander, medic, and even an explosives guy that come handy when playing through some of the levels.

Graphics

The graphics of Second Sight are just above average and fit the game well. The character models are a very nice part of the graphics. They are well detailed and look excellent. Besides the character models the character animations are also well done and look realistic. Whether Vattic is climbing a latter or running and dodging bullets the animations are smooth and realistic. Another great part of the game is how you can interact with some of the objects in the game. Part of this is obvious such as moving objects with telekinesis but there are also a number of objects that are effect by bullets. For example if you are standing behind a fence and being fired upon. Eventually parts of the fence will begin to break off forcing you to find a new spot for cover. This is a really neat part of the game and makes it feel even more realistic.

The only down side of the graphics that are noticeable is some of the textures in the levels. For example some of the wall textures and ground textures are not very detailed and you can even see where they repeat if you look closely. Not a big down side but it is noticeable while playing and brings the overall feel for the game down.

Audio

The soundtrack that goes with the game is probably one of the best aspects of the entire game. The soundtrack fits the mysterious mood of the game and very rarely does it ever sound repetitive. There is also a lot of acting from the characters in the game that make the game even more realistic. Other than then that the sound effects in the game where also well done. For example, there is a sound effect for almost everything even down to if you run into a small box somewhere.

Overall

Although Second Sight may appear to be almost the same exact game as Psi-Ops they both are very different but have the same idea. If you think that just because you have played through Psi-Ops and don't want to try out Second Sight because it is the same thing you are wrong. Overall Second Sight is a great game and is well worth a try.
